Piha is arguably the most famous beach in New Zealand. Renowned for it’s rugged coast and unruly surf, there is even a TV show featuring the lifeguards of this beach.
The unique black iron sand that adorns the shores was produced by the volcanic eruption of Lake Taupo thousands of years ago.The iconic landmark, Lion Rock is a volcanic plug that dates back 16 million years and offers numerous views of the surrounding landscape.
As I stand out here in the wonders of the unknown at Hadley, I sort of realize there’s a fundamental truth to our nature, Man must explore . . . and this is exploration at its greatest.
We want to explore. We’re curious people. Look back over history, people have put their lives at stake to go out and explore … We believe in what we’re doing.
